A Global Celebration of Teaching and Learning

Hosts and attendees gather on Zoom for the conference kick-off. Sarah Özdemir, an educational coordinator in Turkey, called our Teaching and Learning Conference restorative and important. “It was so wonderful to spend that time just talking about education. I appreciate knowing that there is a whole team out there working towards the same goal.” Özdemir was one of close to 150 educators from across Brazil, Honduras, Turkey, and the United States who joined us for our annual Teaching and Learning Conference. This year our three-day event took place over Zoom.  Dr. Kathryn Fishman-Weaver, Mizzou Academy’s Executive Director, led the conference.

Congratulations to Megan Lilien, our Spring Honor Award Recipient

We are thrilled to celebrate our spring honor award recipient, Megan Lilien. Megan Lilien currently serves as an Instructional Designer for Mizzou Academy. Prior to that, she served for several years as our Division Chair for Science, Health, and P.E. In 2021, Lilien was named the winner of the Technology Innovator Award by the Science Teachers of Missouri (STOM).  Lilien is often cited as an “an inspiration” for her energy, enthusiasm, and intelligence. Colleagues comment on her helpfulness, creativity, intelligence, professionalism, good humor, and lively conversation. Teacher Appreciation Art Show

Demonstração de Valores Essenciais (Demonstration of Core Values) Amanda Alvarez couldn’t believe her eyes when she checked Instagram and saw one of her original paintings being celebrated at an event 5,000+ miles from home.  Alvarez serves as a middle school teacher at Colégio Dante in São Paulo, SP.  Her painting offered a fresh interpretation of the infinity symbol used to represent Autistic Pride Day. Alvarez has presented on the importance of inclusion and supporting neurodiverse learners in the classroom.
