Our Impact

We are Local.

As the K-12 Lab School for the University of Missouri, we have deep local roots.

Mizzou Academy has provided K-12 education and courses since 1913. In 2011, we joined the University of Missouri College of Education & Human Development

We are proud to have persisted in high-impact work as a lab school. As an engagement and outreach unit in the College of Education & Human Development, we partner with leading professors, researchers, and scholars to offer innovative solutions to local challenges. We collaborate on projects with academic units including Learning, Teaching, and Curriculum (LTC) and Human Development and Family Sciences (HDFS). We also work with teacher education students to support their development in global and online competencies.

Our work has included partnerships with the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE). One of our projects for DESE included leading the redevelopment of an extensive 30-course library for childhood professionals across the state.

We partner with our local school districts to expand access to excellent online courses, offer professional development, and mitigate educational gaps during challenging situations. In 2024, we launched a scholarship program for students in rural Missouri

Additionally, our team engages in regular service work to support nonprofits in mid-Missouri, particularly those working to help vulnerable youth. These local connections guide many of our decisions and align to our values of partnership, innovation, access, and inclusion. We are committed to strengthening our local roots while expanding our global reach.

We are Global.

We are proud to serve a global community of students, teachers, and school communities. Mizzou Academy’s work with students from 60+ countries and partnerships with international schools around the world reflects our commitment to our mission: With a focus on innovation and access, we develop partnerships and build educational programs to honor students as they grow toward their individual potential and solve global challenges. .

As a global community, Mizzou Academy hosts regular international conferences on best practices in education and school leadership. We also engage in on-site work at partner schools around the world and sponsor the international HIPPO English Language competition

Ninety percent of our 7,000-student population is multilingual, speaking a home language other than English. Our team honors the strengths that our multilingual students bring to our school community. Additionally, we support students in growing their own world language learning by offering World Language courses in 22 different languages.

Many of our projects and curriculum align to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Across our programs, we foster global awareness, cultural competence, and student leadership. Our student leaders are engaged in transformative work to address global challenges including education access, food insecurity, and sustainability.

Our core values include a commitment to teach with the recognition that the world is small and deeply connected. We are proud to partner with educators and students who navigate our interconnected world with compassion, critical thinking, and cultural responsiveness.
