Mizzou Academy student Ava Fleury records a perfect score on ACT test
Ava Fleury Jefferson City, Missouri, native Ava Fleury recently recorded a perfect score of 36 on the American College Test (ACT). The ACT contains four multiple-choice tests—English, mathematics, reading, and science—and an optional writing test. These tests are designed to measure skills that are most important for success in college and are typically taken by high school juniors and seniors. Fleury is only 14 and should be entering her freshman year in high school but is now set to graduate from high school next May from Mizzou Academy. Fleury currently holds a 4.0 GPA. Earlier this month, the Mizzou Academy team gathered for an enthusiastic zoom meeting. Topics ranged from programmatic celebrations, including our growing elementary program and new international interest, to more personal celebrations including family and scholarly accomplishments. As is our tradition, we also announced our summer Mizzou Academy Honor Award recipients and nominees. Angie Hammons Celebrates 15 Years with the University of Missouri
Earlier this month, the Mizzou Academy team surprised Angie Hammons at their all-team meeting to celebrate her milestone 15-year-anniversary with the University of Missouri. Angie Hammons joined Mizzou Academy in 2018 as the Director of Curriculum and Instructional Technology. However, she has held many positions at the University, beginning in 2007 with an educational technology role at Missouri S&T. Mizzou Teacher Candidates Visit Classrooms in Brazil
ELPA 4060 is a required upper level course for teacher education candidates in the College of Education and Human Development. This semester (Spring 2022) the course is being co-taught by Dr. Kathryn Fishman-Weaver and Sarah W. Walters. The course explores legal and ethical practices in schools. Student Authored Magazine Highlights Community Engagement
We are overjoyed to announce the release of our first student-authored magazine, available here. With the guidance of Shivi Pandey, National Honor Society (NHS) student president, 14 National Honor Society students combined their talents, voices, and passions and published the magazine linked above. This publication focuses on student-led service initiatives related to our 2021-2022 school service theme of expanding educational access. This is the second year of this quarterly award to recognize staff and faculty excellence. Celebrating Women’s History Month: A Teaching Workshop
As the zoom room began to fill, Jill Clingan wished participants a Happy Women’s History Month! A few people danced and sent celebratory emojis. Teaching and Learning with Global Neighbors – Faculty Spotlight, Kimberly Kester
Since fall of 2021, Missouri has recently welcomed close to 2,000 Afghan refugees. Several members of the Mizzou Academy faculty are involved in resettlement and welcoming efforts. This month, we want to highlight Kimberly Kester’s work teaching an English class to a group of Afghan refugee women in the Joplin, Missouri area.
